What is Wedding Photojournalism, anyway? Doesn’t every photographer take "candid" photographs?

Photographer walks up to the couple at the reception. Couple looks at the photographer with THAT CAMERA . . . and sort of smiles. Sure, the photographer did not "pose" the subject. It’s a "candid" moment. But does it say anything about the wedding day? Photographer is on the sidelines at the reception, blending into the crowd. You don’t even know that he’s there. Starting to dance, your first as man and wife, looking into each others eyes, you connect and melt into one another.

When you look at the preview set, and see the 5, 10, 15, or even 30 shots that were taken of this sequence, you see how they tell a story: the story of how much you are in love, the emotional look on Mom’s face (something you never saw!) . . . and you were unaware that any of them had ever been taken!

Truth happens fast! It’s that decisive moment that’s absolutely essential for me. Without it, the image is empty. Seize the opportunity to capture the essence of YOUR wedding day with someone who can blend into your wedding; someone that can witness and document the story for children not even born yet. The quest is for the natural, with all it’s imperfections and beauty, rather than for the fake or the artificial.
